Neuroscience research has long been a major strength at UWA, focusing on developmental neurobiology and neural plasticity including understanding how different modes of brain stimulation affect neural circuitry. Research on visual and auditory system function, development and plasticity has received particular attention. Other studies are aimed at treatments for brain and spinal cord trauma, including cell-based therapies. The neuroscience major attracts many high quality students, many going on to undertake Honours degrees, PhDs as well as working in government agencies and industry.
