Physical Chemistry
Physical chemistry is the study of how matter behaves on a molecular and atomic level to better understand how chemical reactions occur. Consequently the field encompasses development of theories that describe how complex structures can be formed to enable design and production of novel functional materials.
Research in physical chemistry at the School of Molecular Sciences, UWA has resulted in some ground breaking discoveries including the design of novel catalysts, molecular electronics materials, colloidal functional materials for targeted drug delivery, the use of computational platforms to better understand thermodynamics, ionic liquid solvents and energetics of industrially relevant chemical reactions.
At UWA Physical Chemistry is taught by leading researchers from the School of Molecular Sciences. UWA also houses state of the art infrastructure within the Centre for Microscopy Characterisation and Analysis to enable establishment of structure-function relationships from atomic to materials level.
