Partnering with industry

Consultancies

The commercial world always needs specialised help.

Many UWA staff act as consultants in their fields of expertise.

We assist by forwarding any approaches we receive to the appropriate staff member.

If you wish to act as a consultant, or are already doing so, contact us to register yourself on our database.

UWA is committed to strong links with industry. To this end, we provide advice on your particular research or field of expertise and how best to make an approach to external companies.

We facilitate a broad range of relationships with industry, such as:

Consultancies

If you are considering contract research or consultancy activities, you should contact us or Research Services to discuss appropriately costing the budget. This should be done before negotiating prices with the external funding body.

  • All budgets should include an infrastructure component.
  • Consult the guidelines and policy on the charging of University infrastructure.

The contract, which will often identify issues of IP ownership, should be signed by the authorised representative of the University. This is arranged by us, following negotiation of the project scope and budget.

Collaborative research projects

  • The ARC Linkage program funds a collaborative research project in which the industry partner contribution is a mixture of cash and in kind. As a minimum, the industry partners' cash contribution is 20 per cent of the total budget.
  • Inter-institutional collaborations.

We also work closely with Research Services and Legal Services, which can help if you need to formalise the research work as a research contract.
